ASHES2ECHOES

The Story

FROM THE ASHES OF WHAT I WAS, ECHOES OF WHAT I AM BECOMING · REBUILT ONE QUESTION AT A TIME

Before

William Lemon’s path did not start in AI. It started at Newport News Shipbuilding, two weeks out of high school, as a pipefitter. Over time that became marine design, systems engineering, program management, PLM/CAD modernization, software delivery, and recovery work on difficult defense and enterprise programs.

Then came a hard reset: layoff, liver transplant, months in the hospital, severe physical atrophy, fused vertebrae, and cognitive damage that made memory and executive function unreliable. The recovery was not abstract. It was daily, physical, frustrating, and measured in small steps.

The rebuild nobody prescribed

Structured AI-assisted conversation became one of the tools used during that rebuild. It helped organize reminders, routines, reflections, planning, and daily execution. That does not mean AI was trusted as authority. It means the usefulness and the failure modes became visible at the same time.

The practical lesson was simple: AI can help a person think and work, but only when the human remains responsible for sources, decisions, permissions, and consequences.

What the work became

Ashes2Echoes grew out of that lesson. The first builds produced useful ideas, strong visual surfaces, and working prototypes, but they also exposed a dangerous pattern: confident language can make unfinished systems look more proven than they are.

The rebuild is now focused on AI evaluation and automation governance. The goal is not to claim a finished autonomous estate. The goal is to separate evidence from assertion, prototype from production, analysis from action, and model output from human approval.

FORGE is being rebuilt as an inquiry-to-evidence-card evaluator with explicit output contracts, fail-closed behavior, and no advice or execution authority.

Ghost Recon Ops Board remains a strong operations-board concept for lanes, dependencies, closure criteria, and review status, but it must be realigned away from legacy model authority.

The Market Heatmap is now built as a members-only research view in the estate console, for sector movement, relative volume and source timestamps. It has no order path and is not a trading authority.

The public catalog is in The Registry. The resume aligned to this work is here, with the downloadable PDF available from the resume page and the intro deck.

Papers and private material

In progress, not claimed as final: papers and internal records on refusing rails, session continuity, AI-assisted recovery, FORGE Phase 1, CIL vNext, and the estate rebuild. Public pages show the story and direction; private materials open only by grant and remain subject to validation status.

Why it matters

This is not a claim to be an AI research scientist or a credentialed systems architect. The value is program discipline applied to AI work: define the job, control the documentation, expose weak assumptions, verify outputs, preserve defects, and keep a responsible human in the approval path.
